You should check your MyMIT account to see who your interviewer is and give him or her a call or write him or her an email. You should do this, not one of your parents. While we appreciate that your parents want to help, they should limit themselves to nagging you to do it, and not do it for you (this applies to other elements of your application as well). Note: If we dont have any alumni in your area and your interview is waived, and you are going to be visiting Cambridge sometime this fall, let the Educational Council office know at [emailprotected] and we can connect you with an Educational Counselor (EC) when you are here. If your interview was waived and you are not planning on visiting campus, you can check the site periodically as we do sometimes recruit new ECs through the year who might be able to accommodate your interview. Here are my suggestions on how to prepare for the interview: Review the ways in which you spend your time. What do you enjoy doing most? Inside or outside of school. Think about why you like to do these activities. What is it about them? The people, the subject, the process, etc. Remember that the alums will not have seen any part of your application and are not interested in your grades, test scores, etc. They want to learn about you as a person. This is your chance to tell us things that go beyond the application and what you can tell us in the essays. Think about why you are applying to MIT. Do a little research on the web, and think of some questions to ask. Remember that the interview is not only a way for us to get to know you better, but also a way for you to get to know us better. Show up on time. Relax. Relax. Relax. Remember, there is no way to fail. The interview is simply a chance to talk about what interests you and the things you like to do. And remember, all our alumni went through the interview when they were in high school and they are very nice people. They are looking to help enhance your application. There modes of thought, and ways of life were impacted by the change. Prior to the â€Å"scramble for Africa,† their economies were advancing in every area, mostly in the area of trade. The colonizing of Africa was to exploit the physical, human, and economic resources of an area that would benefit the longing nation. Before the colonization, Africa was not economically isolated from the rest of the world. The African states engaged in international trade and the West Africa had specifically developed extensive trading systems. After Livingston opened African the Western missionaries moved in by the thousands. Benefits of the missionaries being involved were hospitals, colleges, schools, development projects, abolition of slavery, and improved agricultural methods. With all these benefits you would think it was he best thing that has ever happened, but with all these benefits it came with a cost. European colonialism brought many things to Africa to include rails and roads but it also cut brought conflicts in the societies today. When the rails and roads were put up, it cut the African continent up into several administrative units. Its far more likely that their first thoughts will be about buying the perfect gifts, having the most eye-damaging house decorations on the block, or having a hairy old fat man in red underwear arrested for putting their child on his lap and whispering to them to tell him what they really want (strangely enough there are some parents out there who actually pay money each year to have this abuse inflicted upon their children). The whole idea of Santa Claus is one of the scariest Ive come across and yet we embrace it. The entire story sounds like something you should threaten your kid with if he doesnt want to eat his veggies. As I understand it hes supposed to be a fat man wearing red underwear who is capable of sliding down your chimney unha rmed in order to quietly slip into your house while youre sleeping. If he really existed Id be sitting up with a loaded shotgun every Christmas Eve, not dreaming of gifts while this lunatic could be slicing the throats of everyone in my house! And to add to the horror he is said to use elves to manufacture toys in a little workshop in the North Pole. This entire elf story sounds like a softening cover-up fed to us as propaganda. The truth of the matter is theres a Mafia hitman out there named Santa the Claw who runs a sweatshop using illegal child labour to manufacture products in a remote location where he cant be easily apprehended; or so thats what my skills of deductive reasoning tell me. So why the cover-up? Simple. The retailers, businessmen, and all the other bad people are all in on it since they realized long ago the amount of money they could make by marketing the Santa Claus idea. So like everything about the holiday, it reverts to money. And when you look at Christmas to day, where would it be without Santa Claus? The multi-millionaires would only be regular millionaires and Im sure all us middle class people would agree that that just wouldnt be acceptable. Our sole purpose during this holiday season is to give till it hurts so we can help those needy millionaires become multi-millionaires because, lets face it people, they need our help. The amount of commercialism during the holidays truly is unbelievable though, isnt it? Just two weeks ago I was at the mall and I decided to check to see if some CD prices were any cheaper in K-mart (The lowest price is a K-mart price, so I had to check). When I got no more than two meters in the door I was swept away by the currents of people. First I was forced towards the toiletries, then pushed by the sporting goods, and then hurled past the electronics section. This chaotic tour of the store continued until I began to be driven towards the womens lingerie section, at which point, as any other self-respecting male would have done, I decided to fight my way out rather than be taken into No Mans Land. After getting out with most of me still intact I realized that I had made the mistake of interfering in the annual Christmas battle of guilt-ridden parents looking for the perfect gifts to appease their children.
